Denver Mayor Mike Johnston has joined Denver Families Action in endorsing four candidates for the Denver Public Schools Board of Education. The Mayor’s endorsement underscores his confidence in these leaders’ ability to deliver strong, student-centered governance for Denver’s schools.
Mayor Johnston has endorsed Alex Magaña (At-Large), Mariana del Hierro (District 2), Caron Blanke (District 3), and Timiya Jackson (District 4). Each of these candidates brings extensive experience in education and community leadership, reflecting a shared commitment to equity, collaboration, and student achievement.
“These four leaders represent the bold, thoughtful, and experienced leadership we need on the Denver school board,” said Mayor Johnston. “They bring deep roots in our communities, a track record of putting students first, and a commitment to working in partnership with families, educators, and the broader community to ensure every child in Denver has the opportunity to thrive.”
Before becoming mayor, Johnston spent much of his career in education as a teacher, principal, and policy leader. His continued focus on Denver’s schools highlights his belief that strong public education is the cornerstone of a thriving city.
“Strong schools are the foundation of a strong city,” Johnston added. “I’m proud to support these four leaders who will fight every day for Denver’s kids. I’m encouraged by the district’s recent progress — earning an Accredited (Green) performance rating for the first time in five years — and I believe there’s even more great work ahead with the right leadership in place.”
Mayor Johnston’s endorsement reaffirms Denver Families Action’s confidence that Magaña, del Hierro, Blanke, and Jackson will strengthen collaboration across the district and bring the focus back to students, families, and educators.
