Mariana del Hierro

Mariana combines lived experience, proven leadership, and a track record of delivering results for Denver’s most vulnerable families. She will bring a community-centered approach, deep equity expertise, and a relentless focus on student success to the DPS Board of Education. Her leadership has been recognized nationally for advancing equity and opportunity in historically underserved communities.

• A proven community leader with a deep commitment to equity
  Mariana is a lifelong advocate for working families, shaped by her own upbringing on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border in El Paso, TX. As the first in her family to attend college, she understands the systemic barriers many DPS families face and the transformative power of education.
• Delivering real results for Southwest Denver families
  As Executive Director of Re:Vision, Mariana has doubled the organization’s size, expanded its urban farm network, grown a no-cost grocery serving over 800 families weekly, and created living-wage jobs for immigrant women. She has built strong partnerships with Denver Health, the City of Denver, and grassroots leaders to address food insecurity, affordable housing, and job training, directly improving quality of life for thousands of Southwest Denver residents.
• Experienced in building equity into public systems
  Before Re:Vision, Mariana developed Denver Health’s first health and racial equity strategy for its Community Health Centers, shaped youth health policy at the state level, and led citywide public health outreach during COVID, ensuring crucial resources reached communities most impacted by the pandemic.
• A DPS parent who sees what’s at stake
  With her own child in DPS, Mariana has witnessed firsthand how overcrowded classrooms and under-resourced educators impact student success, especially for Latinx students. She will work to ensure every classroom has the resources, support, and high expectations our students deserve and she brings both the policy expertise and community trust to make that happen.
