Dr. DJ Torres is currently the Vice President of Strategic Programs at Sandy Hook Promise. with 20 years of experience in education, focusing on equitable public education, community organizing, and student health & safety. He also comes with an academic background focused on the history and sociology of community development, with a special focus on understanding how communities grow and change over time and according to group identities.
Dr. Torres’s most prized identities, however, are those of husband and father. Coming from a large, Latino family himself, he is most motivated and inspired by family time, recognizing that family is a source or joy and love when the necessary work of the world can be difficult.
In all ways professional, academic, and personal, Dr. Torres desires to work toward the improved lives and outcomes of communities most harmed by social and historical violence.
