Alex Magaña, Executive Principal of the Beacon Network, has a proven track record of elevating academic achievement in Denver Public Schools’ high-poverty and high-minority populations. With degrees from Florida State University and the University of Denver, Magaña transitioned from accounting to education, progressing from math teacher to executive director.
During Magaña’s 15-year tenure at Grant Beacon, the school gained national recognition for innovative practices and achieved one of the district’s highest growth rates. His leadership focused on personalized learning, enrichment programs, and character development, resulting in significant improvements in student achievement and school culture.
The success of this model led to the establishment of Kepner Beacon. Magaña now leads the Beacon Network, implementing an innovative, competency-based approach that has yielded remarkable results across diverse student populations, solidifying his reputation as a transformative leader.
