Timiya brings personal experience as a DPS parent paired with professional experience as a student advocate and nonprofit leader. With a bold vision for equity-focused governance, Timiya is committed to building trust through transparency and community collaboration, ensuring safe, supportive schools with strong mental health supports.

  • A DPS parent and experienced student advocate rooted in equity
    Timiya combines her lived experience as a first-generation college graduate and DPS parent with professional expertise as a student support specialist in dropout prevention and as a Dean of Students, bringing both personal insight and a deep understanding of what it takes to rebuild trust in public education. She has worked directly with students and families in Denver, helping re-engage students at risk of leaving school and connecting them to the resources they need to graduate.
  • Nonprofit Executive Leadership
    Timiya brings a wealth of experience in nonprofit leadership, having served as the Executive Director of the Heart and Hand Center, a youth-focused Denver nonprofit that provides after-school programming and other services. Under her leadership, the organization expanded its reach and strengthened partnerships with schools, improving academic and social-emotional outcomes for participating students. Her role involved strategic oversight, community engagement, and program development, equipping her with the skills to lead and advocate effectively for our public school families.
  • Building community collaboration and restoring trust
    With an emphasis on transparency, community partnerships, and elevating parent and educator voices, Timiya will create a board culture where every family feels seen, heard, and empowered. Her approach is grounded in inclusive decision-making that prioritizes consistent communication and clear accountability to the community

    Timiya brings strong skills in community engagement and program development, along with her current work supporting students at risk of dropping out, reflecting her deep commitment to educational equity and student success. She advocates for comprehensive safety plans, enhanced mental health supports, and inclusive school environments where students and staff can focus on learning. Timiya also believes education must extend beyond graduation by expanding access to literacy, math, real-world learning, and pathways that prepare students for long-term success.
